Counterterrorism expert John Guandolo is a former U.S. Marine Corps officer and a war veteran. John Guandolo has actively supported the American Legion.
Through donations and volunteer work, the American Legion is engaged in numerous programs geared towards helping youth become good citizens. The American Legion is also involved in fundraising activities that bring in millions of dollars to help veterans, as well as their families, in times of need.
One of the organization’s programs is the American Legion Legacy Scholarship. The annual scholarship is open to the children of servicemembers who died on or after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Qualified applicants include high school graduates and high school seniors. The undergraduate scholarship can be used at accredited universities and colleges within the US.
The scholarship is designed to cover the financial gap between what the federal and some state governments can offer. The income generated from a trust determines the amount and the number of scholarships.
